The Big Bounce

Welcome to my second opinion of The Big Bounce. Why am I writing a second opinion? Do I lack faith in the reviewing skills of my worthy constituent? Not at all, I just happen to disagree(kind of) with his highly informative initial review and welcome him or anyone else for that matter to submit a second opinion review of any of my reviews if he/you disagree with me. That’s because we encourage an interactive atmosphere here at Dumb Distraction dot com…or something like that.

This movie is about a guy who lives in Hawaii and is a small time hustler basically just trying to stay out of jail. He gets caught up in a scheme to steal a few hundred thousand dollars from the local “not-so-nice guy” and just ends up in WAY over his head…obviously, like you were expecting anything else from Owen Wilson. And I guess that’s kind of the problem. You do expect more from him than you are given in this movie. I think Owen is a funny guy and all but this is probably the most lackluster performance I’ve ever seen him give. There are a couple of laughs in this film, most of them coming in the opening seconds when he pops Lou(Vinnie Jones) in the face with a baseball bat in the middle of a protest, but you just get the feeling that Owen just wasn’t enjoying himself while making this film. Morgan Freeman and Gary Sinese put in decent performances but had far too little screen time to save this one.

All in all, the movie isn’t too bad. It simply suffers from a lack of anything memorable at all. In summation, while I didn’t exactly enjoy this movie, I didn’t seem to hate it nearly as bad as Clif. So if you like watching slow plodding movies that just don’t leave any kind of impression on you one way or the other, except maybe to wonder what happened to the last hour and a half of your life because you must have fell asleep or something, then baby this movie has your name written all over it.
