The Bourne Supremacy

Directed by: Paul Greengrass
Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Brian Cox and Julia Stiles

I had never really liked Matt Damon as an actor. I mean, I thought Good Will Hunting was OK and “Dogma” was pretty cool but for the most part I was just thoroughly uninterested in his movies. Then in 2002 I saw a trailer for a movie called The Bourne Identity. I was a little hesitant to be honest because as I said, I really wasn’t a Matt Damon fan at all but it looked really cool so I decided to check it out. The rest is history and as we all know, The Bourne Identity kicked super ass(not to be confused with Superman’s ass).

Knowing how much I loved Identity I was incredibly stoked when I heard that the sequel was coming out. I knew that if the first one was this good, there was no way the second one was going to do anything less than kick major ass. I must admit though, I did underestimate exactly how much ass The Bourne Supremacy was going to actually to be kicking. This movie is amazing and as hard as it is to believe, it’s miles beyond the first.

Basically, after hiding out for a few years, Jason Bourne is framed for the hit of a CIA agent and then the hit man who frames him attempts to kill him so the CIA would end up running in circles for a while. Bourne is able to get away though and assumes that the CIA has come after him finally so he lives up to his promise…he comes after them.

This movie is insanely intense and Bourne has got to be the most methodical emotionless guy around. It’s a refreshing change for those of us used to a James Bond, fly by the seat of your pants style getaway(not that there's ANYTHING wrong with James Bond) to see someone in a movie stop to memorize a map, which Bourne does several times in this film, while running from various groups of people. Even in the fight scenes, Bourne is totally cold and focused. The most amazing part of the movie, though, has to be the taxi chase scene at the climax. MAN, I haven’t seen a chase scene that intense since Ronin(which is one of THE best chase scenes EVER)! Matt Damon REALLY brings Jason Bourne to life in a way that I would have never thought him capable of. And even though you know it’s only Matt Damon, his cold calculated demeanor still manages to scare you a little.

All in all, I most definitely think this movie surpasses the first and if you liked The Bourne Identity you would be hard pressed to not love The Bourne Supremacy because this film will most definitely own your ass.

I must say on a side note, that this month has been a rare occurrence for me. Three weeks in a row I have seen movies that have totally blown my socks off. First was Spider-Man 2, then I, Robot and now The Bourne Supremacy. If Hollywood keeps this stuff up they might actually restore some peoples faith.
