Best of QT Fest - Schedule

OK folks, courtesy of the Drafthouse, here's the films that have been announced for the Quentin Tarantino festival thus far. Of course, you can count on some last-minute changes.

MONDAY, APRIL 24TH
Kiss The Girls And Make Them Die - This Dino De Laurentis production is a great way to start off the festival, but will probably serve as an appitizer for...
Snake In The Monkey's Shadow - The first QT Fest screening of this film was legendary... I sadly wasn't there, and was forced to watch the edited US release. Now I get the chance to share in the chop-socky goodness.

TUESDAY, APRIL 25TH
Tuesday is going to be first-ever outdoor (via the Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow) QT Fest screening. The films for tonight remain a mystery, but the word is that the double (triple?) feature is going to be something special.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26TH
Wipeout - Now this is what I'm talking about. Wipeout is one of the most highly-loved of all of Fernando DiLeo's movies. For Drafthouse regulars, this is where they got the 'No Talking' clip where a guy in a projection booth shoots a bazooka at a bunch of fat slobs watching a movie. "Just goes to show ya... not all Swedes are natural blondes!"
Brotherhood of Death - I've heard some good things about this blaxploitation Brothers vs the Klan movie, but am curious to see how Tarantino thematically ties it to Wipeout.

THURSDAY, APRIL 27TH
Junior Bonner - One of the lesser-discussed Steve McQueen movies, made towards the end of his career. Directed by Sam Peckinpah, the thing I love about this movie is its supporting cast, including Joe Don Baker, Ben Johnson, and the immortal Dub Taylor.
Saint Jack - Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, Saint Jack won the festival's Best Film award a few years back. Its a movie about an American who runs a brothel in Singapore, and although I saw it as part of the Roger Corman collection, I didn't love it as much as the QT audience seemed to. Of course, I'm sure with the appropriate intro/crowd vibe this'll play well.

FRIDAY, APRIL 28TH
Billy Jack - Hmmmmm not sure what to say about this one. Never been a fan of Billy Jack, and from what I hear, it didn't go over too well with the audience the first time around. Maybe this one'll get changed... perhaps with Billy Jack's first appearance Born Losers?
Vanishing Point - This one is billed as an "existential car chase across the desert in a post Easy Rider America." Sounds like (and was released the same time as) Two-Lane Blacktop. If this one stays as-is, the first 2/3 of Friday are shaping up to be sloooooow. But...
Rolling Thunder - Yes. This is the one film that I was hoping to see at this festival. Starring William Devane and Tommy Lee Jones and king-kong badasses, this is one of the all-time 'Needs To Be Released On Home Video' movies. The fact that it hasn't been released is mind-boggling to me.

SATURDAY, APRIL 29TH - All-Nite Horror Marathon!
Blood Splattered Bride; Twisted Nerve; Don't Go In The House; Police Women; Hell Night; Legend of Wolf Woman - I figured I'd just list 'em all at once, but dang... that's a good list. Unlike the all-night 80's horror from last festival (which contained a total of 0 actually scary moments) this line-up promises some actual scares. And the closing film... Legend of the Wolf Woman... completely owns Madman Marz. Look for this one to become legend for those who make it through till the morning.

SUNDAY, APRIL 30TH
Pretty Maids All In A Row; Girl From Starship Venus - Closing out the week is a double feature of sexploitation (one of which was written by Star Trek's Gene Roddenberry!). Brian has seen Girl From Starship Venus and has promised me that it is really bizzare and really funny.

Looks like a strong festival, even without the inevitable secret midnight screenings that are sure to pop up. For those of you planning on going, drop me a line... I'd love to meet up and share a beer or two. See you in Austin.
